How to choose the right trampoline?

Trampolining is a fun activity that children absolutely love. Ideal for building endurance and self-control, this outdoor game is attracting more and more enthusiasts looking for a thrill. It allows both kids and adults to burn off energy while having fun. Ready to jump into the air? Follow our advice to choose the right trampoline for you.

But what exactly is a trampoline?

A trampoline is characterized by a circular metal structure on which rests a jumping mat, traditionally supported by springs and accompanied by a protective pad. This basic construction is then customized depending on the model with a safety net and various accessories. The price of a trampoline thus varies according to its size, the quality of its components, and the material of its jumping mat.

Different trampoline models exist depending on the intended use. For example, the garden trampoline consists of a horizontal mat attached to a frame by bungees or springs. Generally round in shape, it also features a protective pad that covers the edges, the frame, and the springs. To comply with safety standards, models must be equipped with a safety net. The garden trampoline is recommended for leisure use. Cornilleau's Spring and Springcare trampolines fall into this category. They benefit from equipment that makes them particularly safe and pleasant to use.

The fitness trampoline is preferred for losing weight or building muscle. It is becoming increasingly popular, as many people buy an indoor trampoline to practice at home. This model is limited to one meter in diameter, and jumps cannot exceed one meter in height. Thus, the fitness or indoor trampoline is used solely for fitness exercises. For more elaborate movements, it is recommended to choose a garden or competition trampoline.

The competition trampoline is found in gyms and at sporting events like the Olympic Games. It consists of a 4-meter by 2-meter jumping mat, a 5-meter by 3-meter frame, 120 metal springs, and protective pads and mattresses. Jumps can reach up to eight meters high and provide high-level sensations.

Finally, to the delight of visitors, trampolines have also appeared in leisure parks and funfairs. This is also known as the bungee trampoline. This model is unique for being attached to two lateral elastic bungees that allow for jumps up to 10 meters high.

How to choose the size of a trampoline?

Consider the space available in your garden

Your choice of trampoline should depend on the space available in your garden. The more outdoor space you have, the larger the trampoline can be. As explained above, take note of the overall diameter of the trampoline you are interested in and add 2 m all around for comfort and safety.

Maximum authorized weight

This criterion varies depending on the trampoline users. Is it intended for children or also for adults? It is important to ask yourself this question before buying your trampoline. Note that within the same range using identical components, the larger a trampoline is, the higher the maximum authorized weight. The material of the jumping mat and the thickness of the structure's tubes also affect a trampoline's robustness. This is why the maximum authorized weight changes from one range to another, regardless of the size of the trampolines.

Criteria for choosing a quality trampoline

In addition to size, other elements contribute to the quality of a trampoline. These should be selected based on your needs and your budget.

Propulsion: springs or bungees?

With springs

Traditionally, it is the springs (their length, diameter, and the material they are made of) that bring the best bounces to life. They play an essential role in the enjoyment felt during each use! It's simple: the higher the number of springs, the easier the bounce. Springs are much longer when the diameter of a trampoline is larger. The Cornilleau Spring trampoline is equipped with high-performance springs that ensure quality jumps combined with a modern design to enhance your garden.

With bungees

The Cornilleau Springcare trampoline features a dense mesh of bungees that replace traditional springs. They offer an excellent bounce quality, flexible and dynamic, combined with optimal safety. Indeed, their material absorbs shocks, unlike classic springs. Bungees also have the advantage of being silent, which is not the case with traditional spring-equipped models.

Safety

The quality of the net is paramount. On our Spring and Springcare models, the net has been specifically designed to protect while providing cushioning. Firm yet flexible, it has the unique ability to stay in place and keep its shape even after thousands of jumps. We have also symmetrically curved both the net and the poles to prevent collisions with the latter. For spring models, opt for a trampoline with the springs outside the net for maximum safety. To ensure it is comfortable to walk on the area covering the springs, Cornilleau trampolines are protected by two layers of micro-aerated foam with small cells. Being particularly thin, they absorb shocks better and increase the lifespan of the foam.

Durable materials

In addition to withstanding prolonged use, your trampoline must also resist all weather conditions and elements. The structure of the trampoline, its legs, and the jumping mat must be made of durable and resistant materials. A quality trampoline benefits from anti-corrosion and anti-UV treatments to ensure its longevity and resistance. If you opt for a spring model, conical-shaped springs distribute the force they absorb and release more effectively. As a result, they wear out less quickly.

The jumping mat

A quality jumping mat retains its properties even after thousands of uses. The mat must be of good quality to support heavier weights. Check the user manual: the jumping mat impacts the bounce quality and must allow water to drain in case of rain. The jumping mat of Spring and Springcare trampolines offers high jumping performance while reducing the impact on bones and joints.

For spring trampolines, the bounce power depends on the ratio between the diameter of the jumping area and the number and length of the springs. There are also springless trampolines. These are replaced by bungees. This is the case with the Springcare trampoline, which offers a dynamic bounce coupled with maximum safety.

Stability

The stability of your trampoline is an important characteristic to guarantee safety and optimal user comfort. The trampoline must be installed on flat ground, but it must also be able to withstand light wind. Quality materials and construction will ensure good stability. An optional anchoring kit can also provide additional stability and safety. The anchoring kit also helps protect your trampoline from the wind.

Accessories

The performance, durability, and user comfort of your trampoline can be improved with certain accessories, such as an anchoring kit which guarantees better stability, or a protective cover to better protect your trampoline from the elements. A ladder is often included with the purchase of a trampoline, which is the case for all Cornilleau models.

Certifications

Produced from quality materials with a galvanized steel frame, the structure of Spring and Springcare trampolines ensures excellent stability. The German TUV SÜD GS certification and the French certification issued by CRITT serve as benchmarks in terms of quality and safety. Cornilleau trampolines also comply with the NF EN 71-14 standard.

Discover the Springcare innovation

The propulsion system of the Springcare trampoline is unique and patented. Traditional springs are replaced by a dense mesh of bungees, which are themselves composed of a multitude of microfilaments.
This innovation offers many advantages, in terms of safety but also comfort, with a bounce that puts less stress on the joints. To ensure its durability, each part has been rigorously tested in Cornilleau laboratories so that the Springcare trampoline maintains its qualities even after thousands of uses.
